They’re tiny, they’re toony…and at my house we’re all a little loony about the new Tiny Toon Adventures Crazy Crew Rescues collection from Executive Producer Steven Spielberg. There are over five hours of crazy antics and tons of laughter in the 17 episodes presented in this 2-disc Warner Bros. set.
I never really watched the series when it originally aired back in the early 1990’s, so I had just as much fun as the kids did discovering this hilarious series. The characters are all familiar…yet different. Babs and Buster Bunny are very similar in their actions to one of my all-time favorite characters, Bugs, yet they each have their own distinct personalities and quirks. Babs is especially funny, especially when she is “performing” and trying to steal everyone’s attention. Then there are other lovable characters such as Plucky Duck, Hamton, and Dizzy. Elmyra is annoying (according to my oldest son), but the show wouldn’t be the same without her! Bugs Bunny and his old pals also make appearances throughout since they are now instructors at the Acme Looniversity.
My boys actually got a chance to watch the episodes before me so when I had a chance to sit down with them to watch, they loved telling me what was going on with all the characters and the story lines. I was actually surprised at some of the plots. There were strong messages, about friendship and personal character, which my kids really picked up and understood. I didn’t really expect that from a lighthearted animated cartoon.
I also thought it was cute that although it was their first introduction to the series, the boys were singing along with the catchy theme song after the second or third episode. I loved the fact that both of them sat and giggled and laughed throughout the whole thing.
The series truly is family friendly, although there are some veiled and other not-so-subtle references to 80’s culture that would probably go right over the head of today’s kids, but had my husband and I both chuckling. I’m not sure really young children will appreciate it, but school-aged children and adults alike will love going on adventures with the Tiny Toon gang!
Tiny Toon Adventures Crazy Crew Rescues will be available for purchase in stores on January 8th for the suggested retail price of $19.97.
