Staying Charged While On-the-Go with Magicstick

Product provided for review. As always, opinions are my own.

My iPhone 4S is over two years old and doesn’t quite hold a charge like it used to.  By the middle of the day my battery is already drained and in need of a recharge.  When I’m at home recharging is as simple as plugging my phone into an outlet, but when I’m out running errands, I don’t have that simple luxury.

powerocks magicstick

The Powerocks Magicstick 2800mAh is a compact and lightweight mobile charger that is easy to carry around in your purse, pocket or backpack. With the single USB port and corresponding cable with micro to USB connection, you can charge a variety of devices while on the go.

Straight out of the box I was unable to use it with my iPhone 4S. If you have your Apple USB cord with you, you’ll be good to go, though.  If your device has a micro USB port, you’ll be able to charge as is.  Since the iPhone does not, I had to get creative.  I have a case for my iPhone that has a micro USB port on the side.  So when my battery got low, I simply slipped on the case and charged with the Magicstick.  On a fully charged Magicstick, I can almost get two full charges to my phone.

powerocks magicstickYou can get a reading on the power capacity of the Magicstick simply by holding it in your hand with the port side down and pressing down on the circular button on the top of the cylinder.  A blue light indicates it is at 70%-100% capacity, a green light indicates it is at 30%-70% capacity and a red light indicates it is less than 30%.

The smooth, brushed aluminum finish comes in variety of colors including black (as shown above), green, blue, silver, pink, red, purple, and gray.  The aluminum housing and white carrying case makes it a pretty durable accessory to carry around.

Although charging my iPhone proves to require a couple extra steps, charging other devices such as my Sony Xperia Tablet and Kindle are as simple as plugging it in to the micro USB port.  I think it would be a nice upgrade to add an adapter for Apple devices, but there are ways to work around it.  Overall, I’m pleased with Powerocks Magicstick and love being able to charge my devices while on-the-go.

You can purchase the Powerocks MagicstickmAh portable charger for the suggested retail price of $49.99.  But, if you use the code Powerblog20 you will get 20% off the retail price.

I really need something like this before my next blog trip or vacation- I always run out of battery halfway through the day!

  3. 3

I have a brand new 5s and my phone still is dead halfway through the day, lol. I just use it THAT much. This looks like a great charger!

  4. 4

That would work for my Android … and be SO much easier than using a big Mophie case like I used to have.

  5. 5

I absolutely love my Magicstick. I keep it in my purse just in case I ever need a charge!

Bought mine for my vacation. It only works for one partial charge of my iphone 5, and then it shuts down.
I charged it overnight, but still same thing. I like the look and weight, but I’m dissatisfied with the product.

That’s kind of neat. I’ve heard of something similar but this seems easier for some reason.

  7. 8

I need something like this for my Windows phone. 🙂

  8. 9

I have a portable charger but I always forget to charge it first LOL! Sorry it didn’t work as is with your iPhone.

  9. 10

That’s pretty cool that you can get almost two charges out of it. I have something similar but it only provides one charge.

  10. 11

I just got one of these and I can’t wait to use it! My iPhone is always dying.

  11. 12

Oh this is awesome! I am so bad about having my phone go dead!

  12. 13

I got this, but my husband took it from me. 🙂

  13. 14

I need one of these and can use it with my charger case too. Thanks!

  14. 15

The one I have is bulky and so heavy. I need something like this.

  15. 16

My husband just got a pretty cool charger like this.

  16. 17

I could really use this! I am so glad I heard of it, thanks!

  17. 18

I need one (or several) of these for traveling! My phone always seems to die in the middle of an airport. 🙂

  18. 19

This looks like one nifty little device and I bet my daughter would love this for her phone.

  19. 20

That is so cool, and will definitely be making the trip with me this year on our summer road trip.

  20. 21

This would be perfect for hubby – he is on his phone constantly draining his battery.

  21. 22

Looks like a handy thing to keep in your purse to keep you powered up.

  22. 23

I love how tiny that is. My charger is so big and annoying to carry around.

  23. 24

This device looks so handy and especially perfect during road trips, travel and entire days spent at theme parks.

  24. 25

That would be super convenient to throw in a carry-on or purse when traveling since it’s so small. I like that you can two charges out of it!

  25. 26

I have something similar. It is so nice to have it on hand for when the power goes out or when the phone has a low battery and I have to go out somewhere and need to take my phone with me. I can just plug it up and still have my phone with me.

  26. 27

Oh made a mistake of not taking a battery back up device with me the last time I traveled. The only plug in the airport I could find was in the woman’s restroom. Needless to say I won’t be leaving home without one again, LOL. I like how there’s an indicator on this one to show you how much power is left in it – that’s really handy, not much help to take it with you if it doesn’t have a charge itself!

  27. 28

I love how compact it is, that is something that I would go out and buy for sure!!! Love it, and thanks for telling me about it!

  28. 29

This would be great to stick in my purse!

  29. 30

I could really use this when waiting for my daughter during long appointments.
